TIAAN VAN HEERDEN: BQH since 2019

Tiaan has worked as a quantity surveyor since 2009, firstly with a large main contractor, then with a professional practice in South Africa. He is a bachelor of technology in quantity surveying, a chartered QS (MRICS) and a registered QS (MNZIQS Reg.QS). Tiaan’s career began as a foreman for a main contractor, moving into a QS role where he decided to remain. He has delivered large projects in both South Africa and New Zealand.

CLARE WOOD: BQH since 2015

Clare began her career in the water treatment industry after completing her B.Sc in geography and a graduate diploma in civil and environmental engineering at Auckland university. Following experience in the Western Australia mining industry and a second spell in water treatment as a process engineer, she joined BQH while completing her bachelor of construction in quantity surveying. Clare is a chartered QS (MRICS) and a registered QS (MNZIQS Reg.QS). Clare is a green star practitioner and leads BQH green building initiatives.

CLARE WOOD

RICHARD VAN ZYL: BQH since 2016

Richard is chartered (MRICS) and registered (MNZIQS Reg.QS) as a quantity surveyor. His construction career began in England as a chainman for
a site surveyor. He has since worked for small and large developers, QS consultancies and on portside infrastructure for the Angolan oil and gas sector. Further experience was gained in power generation and metallurgical plant expansion. He has a bachelor’s degree and honours in quantity surveying and is currently pursuing further education in AI and management.

RICHARD VAN ZYL

The new directors will join founding director and chairman Patrick Hanlon in overseeing the company’s strategic direction, governance, and performance, ensuring that BQH remains at the forefront of the quantity surveying profession.

As our new directors join, Martin Quartermaine moves from director to consultant. Martin has served as director of our practice for 29 years, in Brown and Quartermaine from 1996, in Page Kirkland from 2000 and in BQH from 2009. Martin has been instrumental in guiding the company through significant growth, and we are grateful for his invaluable contributions and ongoing work.
