Te Kura o Matapihi: A Fresh Chapter of Learning and Community

The new facility covers 395m² and includes new classrooms, breakout rooms, a multipurpose hall, and a fully equipped food technology area. It also has modern toilet facilities, making it both practical and comfortable. The design encourages creativity, collaboration, and innovation, creating a welcoming space for everyone.

A dedicated team worked together to bring this project to life. Frequency managed the process, BQH handled cost management, and MOAA Architects designed the building with sustainability and accessibility in mind. Marra Construction successfully completed the new facility and demolished the old building on time.

This new multipurpose facility is a major achievement for Te Kura o Matapihi. It provides a future-focused learning environment and strengthens community connections, reflecting a strong commitment to quality education in Matapihi.

Pak’nSave Highland Development on Track: Aiming for February Opening

The roofing work is now complete, which is a major step forward for the project. Most of the external cladding is also finished, giving the buildings a professional and polished look. With the floor slab already done, the foundation is solid, setting the stage for continued progress inside the store.

Inside, construction is moving quickly. The internal linings are complete, creating clear spaces for the store layouts. Work on services, such as essential utilities, is underway and on schedule. This careful planning ensures the store will be ready for both shoppers and staff by opening day.

Outside, hard landscaping is in progress, with crews focusing on pathways and outdoor features to make the site welcoming for visitors. As February approaches, the development team and BQH Quantity Surveyors are working hard to stay on schedule, ensuring this exciting new shopping destination will soon be ready for the community.

Celebrating Success: Introducing Our Newest Graduates

MATT HYDE: BQH since 2021

Matt Hyde’s story with BQH reflects the qualities that drive success in the construction industry: resilience, integrity, and courage. He joined the team in 2021 after completing his diploma and quickly proved himself as a key player. With BQH's support, Matt took on the challenging task of working full-time while earning his degree part-time over three years—a true demonstration of his dedication and work ethic.

Now focused on becoming a member of both the New Zealand Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NZIQS) and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), Matt continues to advance his skills and expertise.

When he’s not on-site or crunching numbers, Matt is just as competitive off the clock. Known (allegedly) as BQH’s top golfer, he’s also a former New Zealand swimming representative, proving his drive extends beyond the workplace.

OLLY McGHEE: BQH since 2023

Olly is quickly building a strong reputation, in quantity surveying, successfully balancing full-time work with academic studies to build a strong foundation in the field. His journey showcases determination and resilience, highlighted by earning his degree while managing major projects like the Earthworks for a New School and the Community Centre Reclad.

Olly’s enthusiasm for quantity surveying shines in his ability to turn classroom knowledge into real-world solutions. At BQH, he has sharpened his analytical and project management skills, positioning himself for professional memberships with NZIQS and RICS.

With a dedication to learning and a disciplined approach, Olly is ready to take on new challenges and make a lasting impact in the industry.

Completion of New Educational Facility at Waimauku School

We’re delighted to share the completion of the new educational facility at Waimauku School. This modern two-story building features eight classrooms, replacing the old TS in Block 9 and adding four additional classrooms to support the growing student community.

This new facility was thoughtfully designed to provide a functional and innovative space where students can thrive. It’s built to create an inspiring learning environment that fosters growth and reflects the school values of Respect, Responsibility, and Integrity.

The new building was brought to life through a collaborative effort. Johnstaff managed the project, with Teak Construction leading the build, and Fat Parrot Architecture designing a space that meets today’s educational needs while preparing for the future.
As the quantity surveyor for this project, we’re proud to have played a part in delivering this outstanding facility. Practical completion was achieved on June 14th, marking a major milestone in creating high-quality learning spaces for students.
