Returning to university after ten years, while working full-time as a Quantity Surveyor and raising two young children, was no small commitment. Tanya’s achievement is a wonderful example of the hard work, dedication and determination that goes into reaching a goal like this.
Here, Tanya shares a little about her experience:
“Ten years after finishing my Bachelor’s degree, I decided to return to university and study for a Master of Construction Management at AUT. It wasn’t an easy decision, especially with a full-time career as a Quantity Surveyor and two young children.
The three years came with plenty of late nights, assignments after the kids went to bed, and weekends spent catching up on study. The biggest challenge was finding enough time to balance work, study and family, but the experience taught me to prioritize and make the most of the time I had.
My experience in the industry also made this degree very different from my first one. I could relate much of what I learned to real projects and situations I had come across at work, which gave me a broader perspective on the construction process.
I’m really proud to have completed the Master’s in 2026. It was a big commitment, but I’m glad I decided to take on the challenge.”
